Art From The Streets in Austin, Texas offers participation in art classes and an annual art show and sale for people who are homeless. Heloise Gold is one of the founders, and currently co-directs this year-round community project which raises thousands of dollars annually for homeless artists through an annual show and sale in November.

All proceeds go to the artists: some are getting apartments; some are buying clothes; and some are opening bank accounts for the first time. Just as importantly, the general public has an opportunity to have the cultural stereotype of a homeless person altered forever as they interact with and purchase the work of so many creative folks. This project teaches over and over that creativity blossoms on its own and that art happens with support, encouragement, and community.
