URBAN ECHO: CIRCLE TOLD
2:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Leah Stein Dance Company
The Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia
featuring Pauline Oliveros and Leah Stein

Part of the 2008 Philadelphia Live Arts Festival & Philly Fringe

Leah Stein Dance Company returns to the Live Arts Festival in a collaboration with the renowned Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia to develop Urban ECHO: Circle Told, a mesmerizing integration of 100 singers with eight dancers moving together within the crumbling grandeur of West Philadelphia’s Rotunda. This world premiere performance will feature an original score by Pauline Oliveros, who is widely recognized for her unique approach to spontaneous composition. Urban ECHO: Circle Told combines Stein’s choreography with the voices of the Mendelssohn Club, which has been a major force in choral music since 1874. Stein and Mendelssohn Club Music Director Alan Harler will invite audiences into a compelling, ever-changing landscape of dancers and singers in motion, exploring the idea of echo to create an intricate, seamless continuum of movement and sound.

Time of performance 2 pm & 4 pm
