World Sounds
Includes two 15 minute pieces Kenya and Transportation (For Leo). Kenya takes us on an audio exploration of that land, from a peaceful village in the countryside to the City of Nairobi. Kenya opens as night crickets become morning birds, then a call to prayer, children singing in Swahili, bird and water sounds, conversations, drumming and the sounds of ceremony and celebration. An insightful, lyrical and sensitive recording, includes a musical piece recorded by the Samite Band in Nairobi.
Transportation in this modern day can take us from one world to a completely different world. This allows us to hear many ways of life but it also disturbs the ecological balance in nature and within man. Noise pollution, rapid changes and an uneasiness are expressed in Transportation (For Leo) along with beautiful sounds that the Earth offers us. The title refers to Leo Zourdoumis with whom Kieltyka worked while recording these sounds. His short life ended in a tragic plane crash, exemplifying the ambivalent character of transportation.
